Dr. Blogger And Mr. Dough

Generally speaking, bloggers come in two distinct types. The first group would be those who post their rants and raves for the sake of venting out while the second group would be those whose goal is to make money. In the past years several people changed from the “just for fun” to the “money matters” type of bloggers. While we are not one to say good riddance to the former type, we strongly suggest that you fall into the latter type of blogger because face it, there is a lot of money to be made through writing. In fact if you choose relevant advertising readers benefit from it.

However, that is not to say blogging should now be all about the Benjamins, because focusing more on the money rather than on your readership could be your Waterloo. Unfortunately, there are a lot of bloggers who are so enchanted by the almighty dollar that they constantly diverge from the topic of their blog, all for the benefit of high-paying ads. For sure you have seen examples of this, like that banner ad for a sex forum (in the guise of a dating site) popping up on blogs about gardening, football, child care, makeup and beauty tips, health and fitness, etc. This kind of behavior disappoints your loyal readers and scares new readers away.

Studies indicate that it takes just eight seconds for the veracity of a site to be ascertained by an individual. If your blog is covered with advertising people will think you are just here to sell them something and won’t bother spending time on your site. What you would want to do is achieve the harmonious balance between advertising and content. It increases the credibility of your site, readers are more likely to spend more time on your site and when they see an ad – they are more likely to click because they don’t think you just do this to sell them something. Think of your readers as dear old friends you are having a conversation with. Would you look desperate when trying to sell something to a friend? Maybe as a joke you would, but not in earnest.

To be Dr. Blogger (as in Dr. Jekyll), you need to do the following:

Exudes passion in his/her writing, and sticks to the topic. Thinks of his/her readers first and how they can benefit. don’t sell their soul and just recommend things or place advertising that they believe is worth it have long term success because they have loyal readers

Now these are the qualities of Mr. Dough, who is our equivalent of a blogging Mr. Hyde:

have nothing but profit on their mind Uses unscrupulous methods to lure readers into clicking their advertisements. Blatantly recommends high payout solutions. have short term success because people are sent away for a couple of cents or because people realize this blog is just about selling them something

If you approach your topic from an unique angle and your blog offers real benefits for your readers you will have success. Not over night because like everywhere else it also takes time and dedication to built something online. Making money online is easier than you think and with more and more people online every day an investment in the future.
